Yes, it is such a powerful place - ...God bless you. Yes, it is such a powerful place - the whole Martyrs' Shrine has become, because of all the different pilgrimage groups of different ethnic backgrounds, a place where all sorts of martyrs are honoured along with the Canadian ones. Powerful testimony to the love of God.Fr. I went to Martyr`s Shrine as a child of 11years on a school trip and bought a book about them in the gift shop there. I fell in love with their love for God.There was no St. Marie among the Hurons reconstructed Native village at that time, over 50 years ago.The whole place was under excavation like an archeological dig with only markings of the outline of where structures had been. We were told one day, in the future, a grand reconstruction of the Native Village would be rebuilt on that spot which has since come about and I have since been fortunate enough to visit. I got to stand as a child on the same spot where you said Mass Father, where they gave up their lives and sealed those vows in their blood. It was an earthshaking moment as a little girl to realize that. The next day in class I had some free reading time and I pulled out the book and began to read of the Martyr`s torturous deaths.Shocked, I broke out into a terrible sweat, turned white stood up dazed, and in front of the whole class, crashed to the floor passing out. Rather humiliated when coming to on the cold terrazzo floor in the hall way my teacher asked me, why I passed out. I told him of the horrific tortures and Martyrdom the priests endured. There were also many Saintly Catholic Hurons whose names won`t be known till Heaven who lived in that village at that time and also died for their faith. It is comforting to know that obscure people of all sorts can become saints right along side the big famous guy saints! One of my daughters was inspired by St. Noel`s life also and chose Noel for her confirmation name.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
